  • Ep44 Scott Marvel

    06/12/2018 Duration: 01h02min

A few days ago, I read a quote by the late artist Ben Shahn. “I believe that if it were left to artists to choose their own labels, most would choose none.” And this quote reminds me so much of my guest Scott Marvel. Scott is an artist. He’s a husband a Father a Filmmaker. He's also the president of Daily Planet; a production company based in Chicago with a huge heart and focus on humanitarian projects and he’s the founder of Give A Shirt; a non-profit organization that helps the homeless to get back on their feet. Scott is also a renowned putterer, he has a fascination with the mundane and the seemingly trivial and in today’s story he holds nothing back in exploring the trivial or how the trivial may not seem so trivial at all. Today’s story is really a grandfather grandson story, although quite naturally overflows into a father son story. In this episode, Scott shares with us the story of his Grandpa Rudy’s death when Scott was just six years old and how that one event has shaped his life. In this episode,

For most of her 20's, Emily flew for Midwest Airlines and at the age of 30 with the company going out of business, Emily began a whole new career.  Emily enjoys doing math. She loves strategy and efficient problem solving. Also, she loves seeing the underbellies of buildings and how things work. Basically, she is a total badass. To put it simply a steamfitter works on and installs heating, cooling, gas, and process piping. In layman's terms, a steamfitter's main goal is to make sure whatever's flowing through the pipes keeps on flowing. Emily works with pipe made of stainless steel, carbon steel, copper, brass, pvc, cpvc, and poly propylene to name a few. She knows how to cut and bond all these materials and her favorite material to work with is Copper. Lastly, Emily's favorite offset to design is a 45 degree offset which helps with what’s known as the

  • Ep42 Debt Becomes Us

    09/07/2018 Duration: 01h29min

Anyone who has ever felt swamped, imprisoned, paralyzed or had panic attacks over their student loan debt this story is for you. In 2012, Hillary Carroll graduated with an MFA from UCLA. She owed 130k--between her loans, interest accrued, and capitalized interest. This story is about how she paid it off. In June of 2015, three years post graduation, after applying for IBR twice (Income Based Repayment), faithfully making payments, having panic attacks, and only seeing her loans go up and up Hillary and her husband Chris decided to live frugally off his wage and make it their goal to throw every cent Hillary earned at her student loan debt. In April of 2018, Hillary became debt free.  Contact Hillary @debtbecomesus or servants.no.more@gmail.com Hillary’s Equation for Monthly Interest Accrual: Principal Balance x Interest Percentage Rate (8.25% = .0825) Divided by 365 = Daily Interest Accrual Daily Interest Accrual x 30 = Monthly Interest Accrual Social Media Host Colleen Lindl @colleenlindl Mostly Minutia Podc

  • Ep38 Sneakerheads Pt1 with Forrest Tagliamonte

    17/04/2018 Duration: 01h01min

When I sat down with Forrest he was wearing a white T-shirt with The Notorious BIG quote "And if you don't know now you know", gold chain, black form fitted jeans, and a pair of Tiffany Dunks seen in this photo. According to an article in Forbes "A Sneakerhead is a person who collects trades and/or admires sneakers as a form of hobby." and according to Urban Dictionary, "One who is in love with but not limited to Jordans, Forces, Dunks, Maxes, etc." And I would say Forrest Tagliamonte lives up to this expectation. Pushing upward of 200 shoes mostly Jordans and Airmax Forrest enlightens the soul when talking about style. Especially when it comes to what you put on your feet.  See pictures of Forrest's shoes Masters of Air Vol 1 Documentary by Nike Fresh Dressed Documentary Sneakernomics: Are Sneakerheads Important?
